The surgeons at South Carolina Sports Medicine are committed to offering the highest level of medical care available. That means when new technology becomes available, our team wants to bring it to our patients. One of these innovations is MAKO Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology, and it’s helping patients all throughout Charleston, SC.
MAKO Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology is primarily used during hip and knee replacement surgeries. It helps protect the surrounding soft tissues and ligaments while the surgeon performs the procedure.
So, how does it work? First, the patient will be evaluated by his or her physician to determine if surgery is the right course of action. If so, a CT scan will be taken of the affected area to get an inside look at the patient’s unique anatomy. Then, the CT scan is uploaded into the MAKO System.
From there, the software generates a 3D model to help surgeons get a better understanding of the patient’s condition. They can also set the MAKO Robotic Arm to remember the patient’s anatomy and help the surgeon work with greater accuracy. We offer hip replacement surgery in Charleston, SC.
